New Investments In The Power Industry Decreased In Q2 2011
Investments in power companies, including new investments through
equity/debt offerings and financings by PE/VC firms, registered a 24%
decrease in deal value with $48.6 billion in Q2 2011, as compared to $64
billion in Q1 2011. On the contrary, the number of deals increased
marginally from 249 deals in Q1 2011 to 260 deals in Q2 2011.
Fossil fuel and wind sectors attracted new investments, which amounted
to $19.1 billion and $17 billion respectively in Q2 2011. The majority
of the investments came from the debt market with $32 billion in Q2
2011, representing 66% of the new investments in the power industry.
However, global debt offerings, including public and private debt
placements, registered a decrease from 95 deals worth $53 billion in Q1
2011 to 86 deals worth $32 billion in Q2 2011.
