Statement by CEO of Nation’s Renewable Energy Leader on State of the Union Address

Lew Hay, chairman and CEO of FPL Group, the nation’s No. 1 producer of
renewable energy from wind and solar power, issued the following
statement today on President Barack Obama’s state of the union address:

“The president is right that Congress needs to enact comprehensive
energy and climate legislation to strengthen our energy security and
generate clean-energy jobs. We also applaud his support for a new
generation of nuclear power plants and for clean coal technology. As a
nation, we need to adopt a ‘no regrets’ policy on energy and climate
legislation. Even those who question global warming can agree we should
create clean-energy jobs here in America. We’ve invested $18 billion in
clean-energy infrastructure and created 60,000 direct and indirect jobs
over the past five years. We want to do a lot more, and with the right
policies in place, we will.”
